These Birds are "Rainbow Laurakeets" and are native to Australia. They are honey eaters. There is a wildlife sanctuary here, where the public can feed these birds at a certain times of the day. The public is given deep plates with sugar water for the birds to eat, and the birds arrive by the thousands (wild birds that is) and eat the sugar water while these plates are held up in the air. Generally it involves about a 100 people holding 2 plates each, feeding thousands of birds.
We have been on the road full time since June 2000. Prior to that Kathy had taken a one-year leave from teaching and we circled the USA twice. Then, for three years we traveled in the summers until Kathy retired. We love life on the road!
